About
Although he draws comparisons from the likes of J. Cole and B.o.B., I'm not sure if we've seen an artist like La'Keith Rashad. Hailing from the inner city streets of South Dallas, TX, La'Keith Rashad is a versatile singer-songwriter who could paint vivid images with his strong lyrical ability or get you deep into your feels with his catchy R&B hooks. Rashad was introduced to music before he could walk as both his parents were songwriters and singers at their local churches. It was there where he would sit in his car seat in the audience and be serenaded by singing and instrumentation. As he grew, his love and ear for music began to expand especially within the genres of soul music and Hip-Hop. Before long Shad was writing verses and composing songs. By the time Rashad turned 19, he had walked 5 miles to a friends' studio to record his first tracks and went by his stage name BLAK. Since that day, he developed a healthy addiction to hearing himself on recordings and creating in the studio. It was at 67 South Studios where he honed in on his skills, developed his sound and began releasing a slew of rap mixtapes followed by local performances. Soon he would attract the attention of a local Dallas DJ who would present him the opportunity to sign with independent record label, Hulk Entertainment/eOne Music. At the time, BLAK had aligned himself with Dallas' most notable national acts like Dorrough ("Ice Cream Paint Job" and "Get Big"), B-Hamp ("Do The Ricky Bobby") and Tum Tum ("Tussle" and "Caprice Music"). The group released their 1st single `Make That Money" which was nationally recognized and impacted MTVJams and BET for a stint followed by their debut album, HULK Entertainment Compilation Vol. 1. Two years later, he parted ways with Hulk Entertainment in pursuit of his solo career. As time passed, BLAK had taken a hiatus from music to recreate himself and shift his focus musically. He had realized that he didn't desire the light or fame that most young artists were chasing. He dropped his moniker BLAK and changed his name to the one he was born with, La'Keith Rashad. Since the change, he has been developing his career as a songwriter. In 2018, Rashad discovered the Beatstars community for himself and began creating hooks for producers like Dreamlife, SoSpecial and DJ Pain 1 just to name a few. Currently, he has joined forces with a powerhouse team of songwriters and producers, Love Pulse Music helping to supply music to TV/FILM projects. Rashad is currently working on his debut EP slated to release sometime in 2022. Keep your ear tuned in for new music from this artist as his story is still being written.
